Journey to Bhutan
This is a standard tour itinerary followed by the company but could be changed according to your interest. A special itinerary could be developed for you as per your need!
Day 01: Arrival at Paro
On arrival at Paro airport a representative of Taktsang Tours & Travels will meet you. He/She is your personal guide and will guide you to Thimphu. For those interested, we will organize an orientation talk and video show on Bhutan after your check in at the hotel. Lunch or Refreshments will be served on your arrival. If we have time, we will visit the National Memorial Chorten(stupa) built in memory of Late Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third king of Bhutan. Dinner will be served in the Hotel. If you are not tired, we could go out for a walk in the town. Probably visit a local bar for a beer or coffee!
Day 02: Thimphu
After breakfast, we will visit the National Library which hosts a vast collection of ancient Buddhist manuscripts, the School of Thangkha paintings and the Traditional Medicine Institute. We will also pass through the Trashi Chhodzong, where the administrative head quarters of ministries are located. Lunch will be served in one of the restaurants in town, where both local as well as international cuisines are available. In the afternoon, we could drive to Dochula, which is approximately 23 Kms from Thimphu. On a clear day, the snow-capped peaks of Mt.Gangkar Puensum, Table Mountain, Jeje Khang, Masakhang and Gangcheyta could be seen. The One Hundred and Nine Chortens (stupas), one of the domestic tourists attraction, built by one of the Queens of Bhutan, is located here. Dinner will be served in Hotel Taktsang. If you are interested we could organize traditional Bhutanese music and dances for you during the dinnertime.
Day 03: Thimphu – Paro
After breakfast, drive to Paro. Check in at Hotel Olathang. We will visit Drugyel Dzong (fortress of the victorious Drukpas), which is being restored. Built in 1646 it was destroyed by fire in 1950, which is of historical importance since it was here that the Bhutanese finally repelled the Tibetan invasion and drove them back. On the way to Drugyel Dzong, we will be passing through many local houses built in traditional styles. You can also have the view of famous Taktsang Monastery from the way to Drugyel Dzong. If you are carrying a camera with powerful lens, we could stop for a while and take some pictures of the famous Taktsang Monastery. For lunch, we will choose a restaurant in the town depending on your interest and choice of meals. After lunch we will visit the National Museum or Ta Dzong (an ancient watch tower), which has a fine collection of Thangkha paintings, weapons and artifacts. After the visit to Ta Dzong we will take a short walk to Rimpung Dzong, the administrative head quarter of Paro district. Dinner will be served in one of the hotels in the town.
Day 04: Paro
Normally the flights from Bhutan leave very early especially if the destination is Bangkok, Thailand. We will have early breakfast and drive to Paro International Airport for departure
